I have a lvl 20 lock and I hate him. I always die and can't seem to kill stuff very well. What build do you guys use for just grinding and doing quests?

My lock is only lvl 40 and she's pretty much all affliction. It's like playing on easy mode. Here's her Armory Profile

I "grew up" with a full Destruction spec. I still miss it a little, but I went Demonology once the Felguard was introduced. Using the VW as a tank, I was happy with Destruction for leveling, as I mostly solo'ed my way to 60. You are, of course, going to get different thoughts from different people, but you need to find the groove that fits your play-style best. Don't give up!

Just on my own observations, it seems like a majority of locks that are trying to level up as effectively as possible tend to go Demonology for the first couple of tiers to gain improved VW and a few buffs to the pets, and then affliction the rest of the way. That way the VW can tank mobs effectively while you dot them to hell and beyond :)

There is nothing more satisfying than putting a dot on a mob and fearing him. Then have him run back to you and drop dead at your feet.

WHile Rin is true that there is nothing more satisfying than quietly dotting a mob and watching him run around while his hp slowly drops to nothing, Jam has a point that demonology has quite a lot to offer. While there are few things that are unfearable, there is nothing that is untankable. To that end, I'd advise putting points into improved voidwalker (and possibly into Fel Stamina to give him as many hp as possible), and then start piling points into affliction.

Affliction/Demonology is a very efficient way of leveling. It's not as flashy as destruction, but you'll rarely run out of mana and you'll usually be the last one standing in any given fight. Like Rinlork says, affliction = ez mode. AND AWESOME.

Then once you hit seventy you can put all of your points into Destruction and merrily explode things in three seconds. HOORJ SHADOWFURY
