Wow, the servers still down 50 minutes after a reboot that was supposed to take 15 minutes! Shocked I say!

Since it doesn't look good for the server right now. I'll take a nap. I should be back on after I finish the server update at work....

Nothing shocks me on patch days, especially with big patches. Yay Blizz!

9:06 server time, and the server isn't even showing up on the server list anymore. Did it melt down completely? This really doesn't look good....

Welcome to patch day. Tomorrow (or Thursday or Friday) all the realms will be up. You will rejoice. You will be grouped with people running an instance. You will be doing well. Then a warlock will drain the soul from the world server, and you will lament. Been there, done that...

What really sucks is that I won't be able to play tomorrow or Friday, with a decent chance I won't be on on the weekend. I'm traveling back East, severa places for a week starting tomorrow.

I had the whole friggin' house to myself last night for 3 hours. I skipped my GAA meeting because I didn't feel like driving over there. I figured I'd play. NOT. Download the patch, try logging in about 100 times...nothing. 9 o'clock rolls around. I try to log in one more time and got no where. Then in everyone comes home and my daughter jumps online. I'm changing my first name to Murphy.

Our server was down and so was LightingBlade. I went and played HL2 once that updated and watched TV.

...You can't ever play on content patch day. Little patch days, sure. Content patches? Never. Happens every single time. Your lives will be much happier and less stressful if you try and keep this in mind for 2.2. :D
Aro - you are soooo right. Yet everytime there's a little voice in my head that keeps saying "maybe this time it won't happen". Please smack me next time you hear that voice.... er, I guess only *I* can hear that voice. Hell, just start smacking me when they announce any content patch. :)

Yep. It's why every time someone asked me, "Do you want to do X on Tuesday?" my reply was, "Not if the patch rolls out that day." Even if the server is up, it is usually too unstable to do anything organized.
And really, it's unreasonable to expect that a massive content patch to a game as huge and complex as WoW - with the added factor of completely unpredictable human beings making up a major part of the game play experience - will go without a hitch. It doesn't matter how much they test it. In a system with millions of users, hundreds of thousands of them online at any given time, there is just too much potential for something unexpected to happen, or for the players to decide to do something that the developers never thought of.

First off - you can tell by how agitated Slow was getting that he hadn't had his recommended daily caffeine intake when he posted. I wish I had my coffeemaker in my office.
And yeah - there's just no way you can test a piece of software against every idiot. We go as far as to run test groups on every web dev project we do, but once the site goes live there are still those end users who visit the site, sneeze, and break something. And then if you ask them how they got it to happen they'll tell you they didn't do anything. LOVE IT!

I can't get into specifics, but due to local politics (read: government funding bullshit) it doesn't look like this particular Monorail Cat will ever be back in service. We're just going to have to run the rest until they break down, too.
