That humane society guy was an idiot, though:

I've had lots of cats... if one starts doing that, generally you just pick it up and bear the pain of the claws before you throw it in the box.

If that guy thought Pinky was painful, don't let him handle reptiles... snake bites hurt like hell, and he wouldn't even want to touch an iguana. When I would take the iguana out of her cage she would scratch my hands to hell and whip me on the back with her tail so hard I had welts for a week afterwards. In her defense, I was too short when I was 10-12 to pick her out of the tank that was very high up without giving her the proper support, so she was really just flailing around and trying to grip because she was afraid she was going to fall. Once she was out of the tank and well supported she was very calm... Iguanas, FTW!
