I have a computer here at the office which used to be with a different company. We took the computer off their domain and put it onto ours. Everything was fine and all our policies came onto the machine except we can't access any of the users files from the my documents folder. We gave the user admin rights and also took ownership of the folder and all of the files but still can't open the files.
Anyone seen this before?

Hmmm.
Have you tried a screwdriver?
Barring that, (and kicking it of course but I'm sure you tried that) I'm not sure what to tell you.

Do you have a copy of ERD Commander? If so, that might get around any strange rights issues. I haven't seen that exact problem, but I have seen where you cannot delete or rename someone's profile, even when logged on as the local admin. We have to boot using an ERD CD and then we can delete/rename.

We used ERD and copied them to an external hard drive. Once we do that we try to open the files and they say they are corrupt.
We are using Xcacls.vbs http://support.microsoft.com/kb/825751 but with problems. It worked for the top level on my documents but not any of the files :(

Well then, that just sucks! Did this computer have any data encryption software installed on it? If so, you could be beating a dead horse :)
