We got some fan mail today that I'd like to share with all of you.
---------------------------------------------------------
Greetings!
I've recently fallen onto your website, and I love it. It's what I'm trying to accomplish with my own guild's website from Steamwheedle Cartel. I'd like to ask a few questions about what programs you use when building the site. Hopefully you'll be able to answer some, but if not, would you mind pointing me in the direction of one who would?
The main site itself, is it hosted or built from the ground up? Who did you go through?
I notice a lot of the pictures used are from the fan art, what program do you use to edit and use them on the site? For that matter, is that program the same as the one you use to edit all the graphics and art?
Who does your forum hosting?
Lastly, I love the calendar, is that included or is it seperate? Who is the company?
Thanks in advance!!

My reply:
Hello Steve,
Glad to hear you like our site! Many many hours have gone into its making.
The site is primarily built around vBulletin which can be found at vbulletin.com. It costs a little money but it's well worth the price tag as it's leaps and bounds above the competition. There are tons and tons of really cool add-ons for vBulletin at vbulletin.org (ie: calendar events, wow characters, the arcade, wiki, moods ets...)
I host and built the site from the ground up. We've been around for nearly five years and the site has gone through many many revisions to come to what it is today.
All of the image editing is done with Adobe Photoshop. I <3 Photoshop very much.
If you have any other questions, just holler and good luck with your site!
Killian

I still like SMF better.
ETA: ... but I am accepting of this particular VB install. Since I meant that to sound FUNNY and I realized it didn't. XD

Definitely Killian! Great work on the site! Thanks for hooking us up with a cool place to hang out.
I've seen the dark underbelly of other guild sites (cough cough MOJO's old site cough) and I appreciate all your work a lot, The Don. <3

Best website I have seen. I love it. I am always on it. The don rocks
Thanks all! I got a reply from the guy. I'm flattered but it also reminds me of the time another guild totally ripped off our site and almost completely mirrored it (this was years ago). Afflack and a few others went over and started harassing the webmaster on the their boards. It worked and they quickly changed their layout.

Thank you kindly for the response. It's funny to know that while we're on different servers, our guilds are almost identical in terms of people, attitudes and such, except that half the guild roleplays, and the other half.. well, we allow it
Thank you for pointing me in the right direction as far as vbulletin goes, I think that I may be heading there as soon as I finish this email. I love how you incorporated the fan art into the website, which I'll admit, I have to steal from you.
I used to have photoshop around here somewhere, but I may just have to break down and go buy it again.. ugh.
Anyways, thanks again and stay safe, I hear that gnomes bite ankles.

Ive been lucky enough to have been in two guilds with extrordinarily talented web people. My EQ guild on the Prexus server was called "Flower Jihad" and was run by the guy who did the web comics "angst technology" and "weak end warriors"; that crew was alot like VS.
But The Don's site here could be the best Guild page I have seen yet.
Too bad he is a pie eater.
